Open access

Refrigeration Engineering and Technology is an open access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in accordance with the BOAI definition of open access.

We define open access journals as journals that does not charge readers or their institutions for access. From the BOAI definition of «open access»:

By «open access» to this literature, we mean its free availability on the public internet, permitting any users to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without financial, legal, or technical barriers other than those inseparable from gaining access to the internet itself. The only constraint on reproduction and distribution, and the only role for copyright in this domain, should be to give authors control over the integrity of their work and the right to be properly acknowledged and cited.

DORA (San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment)

The journal supports and implements the principles of the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA), aimed at promoting responsible, fair, and transparent evaluation of scientific research.

  • does not use the journal impact factor as the sole or decisive criterion for assessing submitted manuscripts;
  • evaluates manuscripts based on scientific originality, methodological quality, and practical relevance;
  • does not support practices that manipulate citation metrics;
  • supports the broad dissemination of research outputs, including data, software code, and preprints.

FAIR Principles for Research Data Management

  • Findable – research data should have persistent and unique identifiers (e.g., DOI);
  • Accessible – data should be available through trusted open repositories;
  • Interoperable – data should use standard formats and interoperable metadata;
  • Reusable – data should be accompanied by clear licenses and sufficient documentation for reuse.

The journal recommends that authors deposit research data in recognized open repositories and include DOIs or persistent links to the data in their articles.

Journal Commitments

The editorial office is committed to ensuring continuous, unrestricted, and free access to all published materials. All articles are made openly available immediately upon publication, without embargo or additional conditions for readers.

Repositories and Archiving Platforms

To ensure long-term preservation and enhance the visibility of publications, the journal utilises the following repositories and platforms:

  • DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals) — for indexing and verification of the journal;
  • CrossRef/DOI — for assigning persistent digital identifiers to each article;
  • Google Scholar — for indexing and search visibility

Technical Means of Ensuring Accessibility

The journal’s technical infrastructure complies with modern open access and digital preservation standards. The platform operates on Open Journal Systems (OJS) with support for the OAI-PMH protocol, enabling automatic metadata indexing in scholarly databases. Full-text articles are stored in PDF format, while structured metadata are provided in XML format. A metadata record is generated for each article, including authors, abstract, keywords, DOI, and a link to the full text.

Guarantees of Long-Term Accessibility

All published materials are stored on the journal’s servers and in external repositories for an unlimited period. In the event of the journal’s discontinuation, the entire archive will be transferred to a trusted digital repository or institutional archive. DOI identifiers assigned to articles are permanent and do not change after publication, ensuring link stability. The journal regularly verifies the integrity of archived files. Authors retain the right to self-archive their articles in relevant institutional or subject-specific repositories.

Authors’ Rights and Licensing

Authors retain copyright of their materials. Publication is carried out under an open Creative Commons licence (CC BY or CC BY-NC), which permits free use, distribution, and adaptation of the materials, provided proper attribution is given. The only restriction is the requirement to preserve the integrity of the work and to acknowledge the author in any use.
